Hawaiian waves have become a source of electricity

Converter Azura

Over the next year, scientists at the University of Hawaii will monitor the operation of the sea wave energy converter into electricity. The object of observation was a 45-ton generator Azura (Azura), differing ability to transform any of its movements into electricity.

The uniqueness of the experiment lies in the fact that the generated electricity will go directly to the US power system. If the result satisfies scientists and power engineers, then we should expect a massive deployment of such systems in 2017.

The US Department of Energy is interested in the development of renewable energy sources. The emphasis is on the fact that more than half of the country’s population lives no more than 50 miles from the coast.

A few days ago, the reception of projects for the competition of wave energy converters was completed, in which 92 creative teams took part. The main prize of the contest will be a cash prize of $ 1.5 million. In August, they will choose 20 best projects, after which their developers will start creating existing models.
